Dave Leggieri

male

Dave is a 1985 graduate of Bishop Kenrick High School in Norristown, PA, where he was awarded Honorable Mention All Catholic League in his Junior Year. During that season, Dave started and played all position except Catcher. In his Senior Year, Dave was awarded First Team All Catholic League for his efforts at Pitcher and Shortshop.

Following his graduation from Bishop Kenrick, Dave received a Baseball Scholarship from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia to play for the Hawks. For three years, Dave started for the Hawks as a Shortstop and Pitcher, where he also gained the attention of a number of Professional organizations, including: the Texas Rangers, the Detroit Tigers, the Toronto Blue Jay's, the Chicago White Sox, and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

During his summer and starting at the age of 16, Dave joined a Semi-Professional ballclub in Norristown, known as the Norristown A's. The A's competed in the highly competitive Perkiomen Valley Twilight League, where two of the Major League Baseball's elite, Mike Piazza and Jamie Moyer displayed their talents as Ballplayers.

Dave was selected as an All Star 8 out of the 11 seasons he compete in the Perky league. In 1986, Dave was awarded the Pitcher of the Year and in 1992, Dave won both the Shortstop of the Year and Batting Title, ending that season with a .460 Batting Average which gained him Most Valuable Player of the Year recognition. Dave was also a member of the 1991 Perky League Champion Norristown A's. All told, Dave was a member of four championships with the Norristown A's.

The other three championships came in Tournament play - the 1986 & 1988 West Chester Independence Day Tournament and the prestigious York Colonial Baseball Tournament, which is played every Labor Dave weekend in York, PA. It is also the only tournament on the east coast that is scouted by ever Major League Baseball team. In 1988, the York Colonial Baseball Tournament expanded its showcase from 32 to 40 ballclubs. These competitors represented 9 different states.

The Norristown A's began competing in the York Colonial Baseball Tournament in 1985, but it wasn't until 1988 that the team finally brought home its first championship. Dave was the staring Shortstop and Closing Relief Pitcher for that team. The scouts recognized Dave's standout performance in that tournament by voting him the first ever recipient of the Dutch Dorman "Most Outstanding Young Ballplayer" Award.

In 1989, Dave was invited by the Texas Rangers to their 1990 Spring Training Camp. Unfortunately, Dave never got to make his professional debut due to a career ending knee injury sustained while being struck from behind in an auto accident. The accident occurred only three days after his 22nd birthday. But Dave didn't let this bad break get him down; he went on to complete his Bachelor of Science Degree from St. Joseph's University. Dave may have lost his professional opportunity to that accident, but it didn't take his heart from the game of baseball. Now, with his playing days behind him, his priorities are focused on developing skills of future stars. Since 1995, Dave has turned his attentions to coaching, running clinics, and providing personal instruction.

Dave is also a very busy family man with wife Lisa and their two children, David and Alyssa. The baseball/softball torch has now been passed to his son and daughter, who are both actively involved with school and travel teams.
